Hello! well i am getting a rat tomorrow and i cant decide what to get a dumbo or a regular rat! dose anyone know the dif or like if they act different or wich is a better choice to get! plz let me knowWhats better or whats the difference between dumbo rats and regular rats?
It's *much* better if you adopt 2 rats (both boys or both girls) because they keep each other company, play rogether, groom each other %26amp; it's more interesting for you to see them interact with each other. They'll be happier, healthier, will be just as friendly toward you, *and* this way you can get 1 of each-- dumbo %26amp; regular top-eared.
2 of our 4 girl rats are dumbos, the other 2 (a rex and a hairless) are top-eared. Personality-wise, there doesn't seem to be a difference between the kinds although I've heard ppl say that dumbos are sweeter. Our top-eared rats are just as sweet, playful %26amp; smart as our dumbos, but there's something charming about those big dumbo ears.Whats better or whats the difference between dumbo rats and regular rats?
i think dumbo rats are still a ';regular'; rat, bred to have big ears.
I had a friend, who had one:i really had to look close, to see:aha! The ears look bigger and stick out more!
I think its cute! The rat did not act any different:as with most animals, get a baby, or really young rat and handle him/her gently every day:that way it will be ';tame';.also, hand feeding little treats will make it friendlier.
It doesnt matter what type of rat. Temperment depends on how well the rat is handled and socialized, it has no bearing on the type of rat.
What type is a personal preference.
A ';dumbo'; rat is one where the ears are more on the side of the head, instead of placed more on the top of the head.
Here are images of dumbo rats for examples..

Rats vary quite a bit.. there are ';rex'; which have a curly coat.. and also hairless rats. Its possible to get a dumbo rex, or a dumbo hairless too!
They also come in a variety of colors and markings.. all are a personal preference.
Dumbo rats are much bigger than regular rats
