If those noises occur all the time at night you might want to call the animal control because you could be experiencing a mice problem in the house. Don't eat a lot of junk food in the house lol.

Probably rats... squirrels tuck in pretty early. It could be an opossum. And if it is, it is probably building a nest. So get someone to check it out for you. If it's a raccoon, those things are mean!
Most likely its rats. Squirrels are generally not nocturnal and rarely will they occupy the same space.
Put up a trap or two and find out.

Well, at out house, we heard a scritchy-scratchy sound and then we heard a creak or two in the ceiling. If that is what you are hearing, it is a mouse.

Get it checked out as if it is rats or squirrels they reproduce like mad and you could soon find yourself overrun
