Can rats get the same kind of fleas as dogs?

I was told they get some sort of fleas, but is it the same as the kind dogs get? If so how do you fix it?Can rats get the same kind of fleas as dogs?
The fleas that dogs get do not prefer rats, but if rats are around, the fleas do not discriminate. It's the same way fleas will bite you, even though you're not their favorite meal. they do get the same fleas as dogs.


i have dogs and i make sure that my rats will definately not get fleas by bathig them in a specail rat flea shampoo, and it keeps the fleas away.


but you need to make sure the dogs dont have fleas as well. because it will affect the rat worse as they are only small.

Ratties tend to get mites rather than fleas.





If they are scratching quite a lot, then chances are, they have mites. This can be easily treated by purchasing an over the counter product named 'ivermectin' from your local pet shop, superstore or supermarket. :) Or, you could take ratty to the vets and they can prescribe you ivermectin. :)

Yes they can.Whatever you do keep them off its head.Fill up your bathtub with water(Enough so that it can swim). Get dishsoap (any type like ';Dawn';) and scrub your rat for about three minutes. Now rinse him/her off and just let it swim for a few minutes so any unharmed fleas will drown. Once you dry your rat off, get a fine tooth comb or a cat comb and comb away the dead fleas.And if by chance theres still a few left repeat the process a few hours later or the next day.Hope it helps
Ok so Debra has it all wrong. You should NEVER use soap on your pets. LOL. Rats can get fleas, although usually they get mites. I would call your vet, there are many topical treatments that are safe for rats. And none of them include dish soap.
