Is it normal for rats to sway back and forth?

We just got a baby rat on Thursday, I'm not sure of her age but the pet store was just releasing her for sale when we got there so I'm guessing around 9 weeks old. Well... we actually got 2 (females), the one starts to sway back and forth sometimes when shes walking.

Is this normal? Is it normal for rats to sway back and forth?
If your rat has pink/red/redish colored eyes, then this is normal. It is trying to focus on something or judge distances. I was worried when my beige hooded rat who has some red in his eyes started doing this, but the vet said it was normal. My other rat who has dark eyes does not do this. Unfortunately rats have rather poor eyesight and rely mostly on their sense of smell and hearing. Is it normal for rats to sway back and forth?
well to answer this question there is a number of things that could be it.

If she has red or pink eyes, this connects to an inner ear/balance problem, this causes a swaying or bobbing motion in the head and sometimes whole body.

if she has an ear infection or has recovered from an ear infection then she may have a damaged ear drum, this also causes a balance and hearing problem, also causing the head to sway.

if she is of the dumbo or skinny rat genus, this is also common.

more likely then not she is fine and just has an inner ear problem, common in pet shop rats for their bloodlines are minimal, meaning father is bred to daughter and son is bred to mother...
I've seen rats doing that- it's normally because there's conflicting smells and sights around them. Remember, rats see out of side eyes, not front eyes, so they see two different sights, which can confuse them. I'd say it's totally normal unless-

1.) The rat has had a bump on the head.

2.) You see any other symptoms such as-

Nose bleeds.

Seizures.

Limpness of limbs.

Difficulty walking.

Tiredness.

All of which could indicate a stroke or a neurological condition. HOWEVER, don't panic- it sounds perfectly normal.
Well for one thing ur rat was prolly 5-6 weeks old when you got her, that's the typical selling age for pet stores. Rats have poor eyesight so the swaying back and forth is normal, especially for red eyed ones. Nothing to worry about. i think its adorable! =] i think sum1 already answered this ? correctly but oh well..
what color are her eyes? if they are red then that is considered the ';worst'; eyesight for rats. rats have bad eyesight and the red-eyed ones are nearly blind. So sometimes when they're trying to focus the world they will sway their head side to side.
She could be swaying in order to have a better look @ something. We've especially noticed this in our rats with pink or red eyes, as their eyesight is even weaker than that of dark-eyed rats.
