we were woken by chewing noise and a huge rat was chewing through the wooden house???how do we stop it coming back??We have 2 hens how can we stop rats?
Creasote the bottom 1ft.of the henhouse heavily -2-3 coats -they don`t like the taste !! Then buy a cage trap from your local agricultural supplier (about拢20).We have 2 hens how can we stop rats?
Have a browse through here: http://www.ppcsupplies.co.uk/Index.aspx?鈥?/a>
(note: links to rat poison, rat repellent and rat traps are useless)
Then see if you can't find it cheaper on eBay.
you will have to buy some rat poison, although this obviously means killing them.
This is an idea if you are happy to do that, if not then i'm sorry i don't know.
Good luck
Remove the food source
or kill the rats
if you catch %26amp; remove them others will take their place
sorry
You won't stop rats, but you can discourage them. Make sure that you keep chicken food in a metal dustbin, with the lid on - rats will chew through bags. Feed the chickens from a tray or trough, don't throw grain on the floor, as the uneaten grain will attract rats. Don't feed your chickens on kitchen waste, as although they'll eat some of it, the stuff that they leave will bring rats.
If you need to poison the rats, then get an expert in with proper traps, as you must prevent the chickens eating the poison. I have done all of the above, and no longer have the problem.
eat the hens after that they come eat rats also
Friend has same problem so he's got himself a humane rat trap, once caught u can relocate them in the wild or whatever you have to do ...
As a rule of thumb almost every one I deal with who keeps hens gets rats. There are a lot of rats around at the moment. The only long term solution is to stop keeping chickens.
Firstly,I want u to know, hens are not created by God to stop cats. It's mainly the job of rats.therefore its best for u to buy cats, maybe 2 or 3 are just fine. they do the same jobs as rats poison, even more effectively than them....but make sure u bath them often because cats were known to be able to spread some disease..take prevention before cure...:)
Put a sign up
Go to the pound and pick out the most starving looking cat u can find.
Eat the chickens
I wonder if buying a male pet rat will discourage the wild disease ridden ones? Apparently they make great pets.
If you wake up in the middle of the night to them chewing phone the Samaritans not me, as I am having problems with an owl in our apple tree having a job hunting for rats.
You will have to put down a trap( a humane one)
