but the cage next to your dog and just leave the room then come back and get the rats out of the cage 1 bye 1 and hold them in your lap and let the dog sniff the rats then let the dog get use to to the rats.I have a golden retrever puppy and 2 rats whats the best way 2 introduce them?
Don't because dogs are hunters and will prey after those rats and the rats are going to defend them selves and each other....... Don't that's just a killing waiting to happen. My friend had a dog, cat, and hamster and tried to the cat destroyed the hamster and the dog bit the cat
I would not exactly want those two to play together because to your golden retriever they are food
Let the puppy sniff the rat cage.

Take one rat out and hold it, and let the puppy sniff it. As long as all is going well, you can put the rat down (maybe in a large box or rubbermaid tote or something) and let the dog watch it, and sniff some more.

Start there, see how the dog and the rat react to each other, then maybe try adding in the other rat.

Eventually you may be able to let the rats out to run around the room and let the dog watch/play with them. Always supervise them, of course.
DON'T. The puppy will not play nicely with the rats. He will either think they're prey and go straight for them or will harm them by playing too roughly. You're asking for an accident if you even try!
