Me and my boyfriend have had two pairs of male rats over the years, and both times they have fought so badly we have had to separate them, we have also got a cage full of girls and they seem to get along fine?
At the minute we have two boys, who although they don't look like brothers they were together at the pet shop and had been sharing a cage for quite a while with other rats. But now they are tearing each other to shreds! we don't want to separate them, just wondered if anyone had any tips? Why do our buck rats always fight?
Do you still have that cage full of girls? If you have males %26amp; females at the same time, that could be the cause of the boys fighting. Their hormones go crazy when they can smell a female rat in heat, and they may consider each other competition.
If you don't have them at the same time, then perhaps you should consider neutering them, as that may help with the aggression. Why do our buck rats always fight?
Don't put them in a cage of females, that's why they are fighting.
Get both of the males neutered.
Well, it can seem like fighting, if their isn't any blood, or apperant wounds, than it isn't serious . Rats usually 'fight' to see whose boss, theres no really a way to stop it . If it is really serious, [example above] than you should seperate them so they wont get hurt any longer . Perhaps the cage is too small for them , and their fighting over space ? How big is the cage ?
simple, they are trying to show whos better

there are some stories on there about male aggression (and some female aggression)
you can probably use their experience to figure out why they're fighting. Some bucks just don't get along with others, its a fact of life.
Are they causing each other to bleed? because really, until skin is torn its usually just a minor dispute (even though it sounds awful) My two females screech at each other once or twice a week over something, but they've only caused injury once, and it was an accident, because the girl who caused it immediately started cleaning the wound of the other one.
I hope those links help, It would suck to have to have them live a solitary life. Good luck.
this happen to most animals around the world males will fight for terrortory
