Is it okay for me to feed my rats with rabbit food ?

i know that i should buy them rat food but the shop was all out and i needed food. is it okay for them to eat ?

thanks ;)Is it okay for me to feed my rats with rabbit food ?
Rabbit food usually contains alfalfa (lucerne), which rats can't digest.

You'd be much better off feeding your rats Suebee's mix ( http://www.ratsrule.com/diet.html ) as a supplement to lab blocks, NOT the ';rodent'; mix sold in petshops. Those rodent mixes always contain things rats shouldn't have as anything other than an occasional treat - sunflower seeds, nuts, dried corn (this can contain toxic mould, has little nutritional value, and is also a potential carcinogen), and, as I said, alfalfa.

Those mixes also allow the rats to pick and choose what they like, leave the rest, and therefore not get all the nutrients they need. When feeding ANY mix, even a healthy one, NEVER refill the bowl before everything in it has been eaten (and make sure you check for stashes elsewhere in the cage before you refill it)!

Here's a list of things to watch out for when feeding your rats: http://www.petratscanada.com/forbidden_f鈥?/a>Is it okay for me to feed my rats with rabbit food ?
Nope you MUST feed the rat food, as it has all the nutrients that they need on a daily basis. I used to give them that and also lots of other things..mashed potato (they loved this!)..honeynut loops in milk...fruit and veg...also got them rats chew sticks that they loved to knaw on....some of the big animal shops like pet world have a healthfood section just for rats.....Enjoy your rats they are fabulous pets!!

it wont hurt them if you are feeding it for a short time...I mean a DAY only... but then what do you do with rest of the food??

try going to a different shop

I find LIVESTOCK FEED shops to have the best prices on pet food
I would not thry need different vitatmins

u can feed it rabbit food but it will live longer on rat food
no not really has it has different proteins, .carbohydrates etc
For this one time I am sure they will be fine but make sure they stick to rat food from now on as rabbit food contains different nutrients to suit their diet.
Should think so. I expect it's a similar mix of stuff. Rats eat pretty much anything don't they.
Hi,

Rabbit and rat food is very simular, remove the grass pellets, as the rats won't eat these, add a few peanuts or sunflower seeds to the rabbit mix, or cat biscuits if you have any.

Remember to buy more food than you need each week, to save yourself running out.
for a short period of time but i would not recommend it long term aloso try and supply them with veg and fruit
