Will my rats be able to do the cup and treat trick?

not sure exactly what you call it, but you just have 3 plastic cups and you place a treat under one. i was thinking about getting my rats to do it.Will my rats be able to do the cup and treat trick?
Oh they will be able to do it alright, whether or not they will is another story lol.

I know my girls can find the treats hidden this way, as they have done it before, but they don't bother unless they really have to (my fault I suppose, I'm too soft on them, they usually just sniff around a bit then look at me with those sad eyes and I cave in and just give them a treat anyway :-D ). I do have one girl who does this trick really well, unfortunately not quite the right way... once released to do the trick she just charges round and knocks all the cups over until she finds the treat *rolls eyes* lol

Give it a try and see how it goes with yours :) Even if it turns into a bit of a disaster at least it's quality time and fun spent with your rats.

Have fun :) xxxWill my rats be able to do the cup and treat trick?
Yes, they will be able to as they will smell the treat to see which cup its in.

At first they may not know what is going on, but they will soon learn and get used to it, just give them time.

Once they have masted the three cups, you can then make it more challenging by adding more cups, spreading the cups out or even putting all the cups in a maze.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to email me.
They should be able to do it, as long as their senses of smell are normal. Make sure they aren't exposed to smoke or other vapors, and only use CareFresh or other paper-based bedding; keep them healthy, and their senses of smell should be fine. I've gotten a couple of my rats to do this trick, and it's really cute!

You can also make it challenging for them by including more cups. Make a pattern or something, and switch it around each time. Or include a few shoe boxes or books. Place the cups around, some on the table or wherever you're doing this, and some on the box or book.

Oh, and be sure to use a strong-smelling treat like a ball of cheese or something. Wave it in front of their noses to make sure they know it's there. If you get both of them involved, then they'll start to race each other to find the treat.

Take it slow and be patient; it may take them a while to understand what to do. Have fun! :)
well my hamsters can and rats are much smarter :)
